GSD soft ears or teething?

I have a 5 1/2mo male American breed GSD AKC registered. He is a huge pup, 60lbs already and he has adorable Dumbo sized ears. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old and his ears have never gone more than half mast. He is almost done teething, I believe, because all of his adult teeth have broken through the gums, however I'm waiting for the last few stubborn baby teeth to fall out. His parents and 3 previous generations (all working dogs SAR and Cadaver) had no ear issues. I've read so much in the last 2 mo about taping and not taping and waiting and not waiting. I tried taping once and he did everything short of taking his own head off. I just am not sure if I should torture my love with temporary antennae. The vet is ambivalent and I feel my window of opportunity rapidly closing, so, now I really am unsure of my course of action. Anyone have any knowledgable advice for me? Thanks!...Joce
